abus locks
I’ve been using an Abus cable lock for more than 10 years now. Although I’ve got a collection of heavy-duty U-locks and chains, the little cable lock does a great job of securing my bike in low-security situations such at my day-job where multiple security guards keep watch over the bike rack. Still, when the good folks at Abus found out about this, they insisted that I try out their Bordo instead.
The Abus Bordo 6000 folding lock is designed for medium to nearly-high security situations as it’s reportedly as strong as many U-locks on the market. It offers the functionality of a cable lock, namely the ability to lock your bike to an irregular or wide diameter object, and/or to lock the frame and wheel(s) at the same time. But unlike cable locks, the Bordo’s 5mm thick steel linkages are not easily snipped with a bolt cutter. And while it’s true that all locks can be compromised, many times the thing that matters most is whether your lock appears tougher than the one locking the bike next to yours.
